At the exit from Bijeljina, on the third kilometer towards the Pavlović Bridge, there is the Ethno Village "Stanišići". The ethno village "Stanišići", beyond the present time and space, brings us back to our ancestors and nature, and awakens in us admiration for the simplicity of the former way of life. Here the eyes and the soul rest, the man becomes nobler, but also wiser by listening to the murmur of the stream and the work of the mill.
The ethno village "Stanišići" was founded in 2003, thanks to the inspiration of Boris Stanišić. For several years, he traveled through the Serb villages of central Bosnia in search of old houses and objects that would preserve the idea of a time and culture of living from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.
The result is an authentic mountain village in the middle of the Semberija plain. Today, two units stand out in the village, one depicting secular life and built of wood. It consists of wooden houses - log cabins with furniture that has belonged to them for centuries. The houses are connected by paved stone paths, and in the center of the village there are two lakes, as well as a space designed for the presentation of old folk skills, two authentic mills, the monastery of the Holy Father Nikola where part of the relics of this saint is kept. The spiritual whole takes us even deeper into the past and is made up of replicas of buildings from various places marked by Orthodoxy. It is connected to the secular part of the village by a large stone bridge which is a replica of Kozje ćuprija from Sarajevo.
In the heart of this whole is the monastery of the Holy Father Nikola, a replica of the monastery of Kumanica, the endowment of Nemanjić, and in it are placed the relics of Tsar Uroš and the Holy Father Nikolaj. There is also an ark with particles of the relics of the Holy Father Nikola. Next to the monastery there is a monastery house (konak) which is an exceptional example of medieval construction. Near the monastic house, on the lake, there is a stone amphitheater with 380 seats, intended for cultural events under the open sky.
A modern hotel with a modernly equipped congress hall was built in this complex. The brook mill was built in 1937 and is still in use, as is the 1917 mill in which flour is still ground for the cakes served in the restaurant. Inside is everything a miller needed to stay in it during the grain milling season.
The dairy is from 1948. It is a building for milk processing and storage of dairy products, with all wooden containers. The dairies were well ventilated and clean, and only women who dealt with them could enter. The houses belong to the Dinaric type, they are made of wood and with a high roof. It is a small apartment complex where the houses are authentic on the outside, and the interior is adapted to the modern needs of guests. All facilities of this unit are located near the lake and the stream that winds between them, and are connected by paths paved with stone. From the spring, pure water constantly flows, which is everywhere in the village and its course symbolizes the source of life, existence and duration.
Souvenir shop
On the ground floor of a wooden house from 1933, there is a shop of old products made the same as many years ago. Here you can buy postcards, knitted wool items, items with the sign of the ethno village, wooden bowls, weaving products and the like. The most valuable offer is an ethno workshop, which are unique wooden products (chairs, tripods)
Carriage ride
The ethno village organizes carriage rides or hunting sleigh rides. For those who want to feel and see how Semberija lives, there is a ride through the Sember villages, and for those who want to take a break from people, there is no better cure than nature, and that is why there is a carriage ride along the Drina.
