Bijeljina City Park- Lungs of Bijeljina, a paradise for lovers and an ideal place for recreation. Many generations of young people fell in love or kissed for the first time in the Park, many good books were read, the first steps or circles were made by bicycle. For senior citizens and recreationists, the Park is, above all, an oasis of clean air and a refuge of peace, quiet and shade, and for children it is a place to play.
Each place has its own story, and the story of our park begins back in 1782 when a boy named Johan Kaiser moved to Francjozefsfeld (today's Novo Selo) with his parents. After schooling in Austria, he returned to Semberija and worked as a clerk in the Department. for hunting and raising forests of Bijeljina Municipality. In the area of today's city park, there was an abandoned field that would probably have been neglected for a long time if the young municipal official had not requested it at the beginning of 1891, and the municipality approved the purchase of seedlings for the future park. From the beginning, Johann Kaiser understood the idea of building a park in German meticulously and devotedly. After making a plan for the future park, modeled on parks in Austria and Hungary, Johan twice went to Vienna and Pest for seedlings, and mostly procured seedlings of plane trees (hitherto unknown in this area) and chestnuts for the park's alleys. The cargo also included seedlings of poplar, linden, apple, fir, thuja, pine and beech. Low alpine vegetation was intended to imitate shrubs.
After the major renovation of the City Park, new lighting was installed and a cafe was built in the central part of the park, where it once existed. This created new facilities that attracted many more people from Bijeljina to this oasis of nature in the city center and the return of the old glory to the green pride of Bijeljina.
